Dental (peridontal and endodontal) disease is the most common disease among small animals. Oral disease can affect both the mouth locally and the body systemically. Research has shown that good oral health leads to longer lives.  Ask me about how to start brushing your pets teeth every day or what other dental hygiene options are available.

There are a multitude of toxins and  poisonous substances including plants, human foods, human medications and more that can affect your pet based on their exposure.  Becoming familiar with the these threats and the clinical signs they can cause could help save your pet's life.

1 out of 3 pets will go missing in their lifetime. Without ID, 90% do not return home.  Microchipping increases their chances of returning home if lost during an emergency.  I use PetLink Microchips because they are affiliated with AAHA’s national petmicrochiplookup.org, as well as Petmaxx.com, which brings together 31 international databases. No other U.S. registration database has an international microchip search engine connection.

PetLink.net is protected with funding which guarantees any pet’s registration will be good for the life of the pet, even if Datamars went out of business. This makes a pet’s registration in PetLink a TRUE LIFETIME registration. Your PetLink registration is included in the cost of the microchip implantation, and covers you for the lifetime of your pet.

This site is a WEALTH of education on proper pet care and pet health problems from a reliable trusted source. Preventative care begins with wellness exams, vaccines, preventative medication, healthy diet, and exercise.

There are numerous "coodies" in the world that put your pets at risk every day such as mosquitoes which carry heartworms, fleas carry Bartonella, ticks harbor lyme disease and intestinal parasites are abound too.  Some parasites are zoonotic (can be passed to humans). Prevention is key.  Knowledge is power. Ask me if you have any specific questions when we discuss the appropriate preventative care at your visit.

Food recalls (actions taken by a firm to remove a product from the market) have become an important part of our lives.  Some of these recalls can have adverse effects on our pets medically.

Sometimes the recalls are not well known enough for owners to realize they may be affected.  This site helps you look for food recalls of concern, so you can take proper action if warranted.

Rabies Vaccination Options for Cats (PureVax vs other)

Why are there different rabies vaccination formulations for cats?

Typical rabies vaccines are formulated with an ingredient called "adjuvants" which are designed to help the vaccine be more effective immunologically.  However some research has shown that some cats (not all) are at greater risk for injections site reactions, chronic inflammation, and worst case injection site sarcomas (cancer) as a result of adjuvants in the rabies vaccine formulation.  Now, the development of cancer can be multi-factorial according to other research and other factors such as genetics may also play a role.  However, the PUREVAX  Feline Rabies vaccines provides protection without the need for adjuvants, which reduces potential risks to feline patients, such as injection site reactions and chronic inflammation. PUREVAX Feline Rabies vaccines are the only rabies vaccines made specifically for cats. They are pure, safe and proven to provide effective protection. I carry the PUREVAX vaccine for clients who elect extra protection for their furry feline friends.  If you are still not sure this is the right formula for your pet, let's discuss it in more detail and come to a decision that fits your lifestyle, situation, and circumstances.
